Law enforcement officers from the velayats strengthened their capacity on risk management and drug search
Turkmenbashy – International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan organized three-day training on risk management and drug search for the representatives of relevant law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan. This activity has been organized within the programme „Technical Cooperation and Border Management” funded by US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
The aim of the three-day training was to strengthen the capacity of the relevant regional law enforcement officers of Turkmenistan оn risk management and drug search at the border crossing point.
Dr. Zaza Berozashvili, International Expert, who conducted the training, discussed various aspects of risk management, its tools and techniques that are widely used by customs, border and other relevant officers at the border crossing points. The expert explained the reasons why many countries have adopted risk management as the guiding principle for border management. He told that implementing risk management at strategic and operational levels helps customs, border, migration and police officers to best deploy resources to control State borders, while ensuring the smooth flow of persons and goods across borders.
Constantly evolving nature of precursors and psychoactive substances and the threat, they pose to countries and societies requires of law enforcement agencies to assess the known and possible risks of drug and psychoactive substances trafficking in order to take adequate and timely countermeasures. Interactive exercises in small groups enabled the participants to apply risk management tools in practice.
As a result of the training, the regional level customs, border, police and migration officers of Turkmenistan strengthened their knowledge and skills on risk management and drug search, that will be applied in practice at border crossing points.
