IOM Organized a Workshop for National Partners to Measure SDG 10.7.2 on Countries with Well-managed Migration Policies
Ashgabat – On 23 June 2022, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, organized a national workshop on measuring the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) according to indicator 10.7.2: Number of countries with migration policies that promote orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people. The seminar was held within the framework of the project "National capacity building for the collection, analysis and use of migration statistics for national development plans in Turkmenistan", funded by the IOM Development Fund.
The objective of the workshop was to share the methodology and measurement of indicator 10.7.2, which calls on countries to promote orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and human mobility, including through planned and well-managed migration policies, the most explicit migration-related objective of the 2030 Agenda.
International expert Sergey Ryazantsev, Director of the Institute of Demographic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with national partners, studied six domains and indicators for SDGs 10.7.2, went through each domain and questions with subcategories. The expert provided the methodology and computational methods and calculated the coding values together with the participants.
National partners noted the importance of the migration agenda and the close partnership between IOM and the Government of Turkmenistan. The seminar noted that the knowledge and skills acquired will be applied in migration policies to achieve national priorities and meet international commitments, including the Agenda 2030 and DGM reporting.
