IOM Conducted a Regional Workshop on Best Practices in Developing National Migration Strategies
Ashgabat – On 21 June 2022, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, organized a regional seminar on best practices in the development of national migration strategies. The seminar was held within the framework of the project "National capacity building for the collection, analysis and use of migration statistics for national development plans in Turkmenistan", funded by the IOM Development Fund.
The purpose of the seminar was to exchange information, experiences and best practices and to promote regional cooperation in the field of migration. The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and departments of the Government of Turkmenistan working in the field of migration, including the State Migration Service, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, State Statistics Committee, Ministry of Education, Institute of State, Law and Democracy and Parliament (Majlis).
Regional experts from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Albania and Moldova took part in the event and shared their experiences in the process of developing their migration strategies. Expert from Tajikistan Saodat Olimova noted: "The migration policy of the state plays a huge role in the life of its population, in the lives of foreign citizens who want to live and work in its territory, and also affects the international situation of the country."
Having carefully studied the migration processes in the Central Asian countries, the national partners discussed the dynamics and challenges of migration management and discussed the best practices of the national migration strategy.
